LAKESIDE — People in Holbrook have long experienced the unique flavor of Jalapeno Poppers. Now, residents of the White Mountains will be able to try it out for themselves.

Jalapeno Poppers opened up its new location at 1624 W. White Mountain Blvd. in Lakeside July 4, in the former location of Loafin’ Levi’s. The restaurant serves Mexican and American food. The expansion comes nearly four years after Jalapeno Poppers debuted in Holbrook, in August 2008.

Owner Maria Francisco said she enjoys the Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside area, so bringing Jalapeno Poppers to the area was a no-brainer.

“It’s very different than in Holbrook,” she said through an interpreter. “I like the mountains. It’s like a bigger town, a bigger place.”

Jalapeno Poppers serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with daily specials. For breakfast, patrons can order dishes like breakfast burritos, omelettes, skillets, pancakes, waffles and more. During lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers a variety of Mexican dishes, as well as seafood dishes, steaks, burgers and sandwiches.

Francisco has been in the restaurant business for five years. She said her restaurant is unique because their food is fresh and homemade daily. She said they make their food with old-fashioned family recipes, some dating back 25 years. She said the restaurant’s recipes for tamales and chili come straight from her mother.

Also adding to the uniqueness, Francisco said, is the fact that each cook at Jalapeno Poppers has their own take on the recipes.

“Everyone has their own way of cooking food, everyone has their own formula,” she said. “Each of the cooks has their own idea, so it’s not the same food every time.”

Francisco said it took about two months to get everything ready for opening, including new floors and carpets and making sure all the utilities were in order. She said she will probably spend five days a week at Jalapeno Poppers in Lakeside, and the rest of the time at her restaurant in Holbrook.

Jalapeno Poppers is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. For more on the restaurant, call Jalapeno Poppers at (928) 368-6107.

Oh My Gosh, they have good food, the tacos are great.
I have had food from other restaurants here on the mountain and I just keep coming back to this one. You can taste the freshness.
