White Mountain Audubon Society is planning a special event Oct. 5-7, called “Wings & Furry Things Film Festival and Benefit Dinner.” Films will be shown at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, and through the afternoon, as well as Sunday, Oct. 7. The films are “Getting to Know Wildlife,” “Wolves in the Wild,” “Wildlife in the White Mountains,” “Bald Eagles and Bears,” “Green Fire,” “Lords of Nature,” and “Anna, Emma and the Condor.” All films will be shown at the Pinetop-Lakeside Town Council Chambers in downtown Lakeside. Cost is $5 per film.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, a benefit dinner will be held at 5 p.m. at the Christmas Tree Restaurant on Woodland Road. A no-host bar begins the evening which includes a buffet dinner, dessert auction and a talk by naturalist, Pinau Merlin. Cost for dinner is $35 per person.
Proceeds from this event benefit its scholarship for a graduating senior in the White Mountains, Audubon adventures, science curriculum to be purchased for 30-40 classrooms in the White Mountains and to be able to provide a beginning birders workshop to the public each spring.
