APACHE COUNTY – In a move that came a little too late, a group of Apache County residents filed a motion in Apache County Superior court requesting a stay on two bond questions and levy limit override on the basis that a County supervisor and at least one other county official violated state law by using public funds and facilities to influence the election.

The County paid over $7,000 for several large newspaper advertisements and radio ads which depicted the bonds in a clearly favorable light.

"Another Fan" made some interesting comments below. As a resident of Navajo County, I may add a tad of objectivity to this discussion. Too may people are confusing separate issues. One issue is government waste and size and high wages. The other MUCH more important issue is the fact that in various counties, the government seems to go right ahead and violate election law routinely. That is what MUST be pursued and prosecuted. It is clearly illegal for any governmnent to campaign on its own behalf. In fact it violoates Federal Law as well as State law. I think this small group trying to stop the illegality has used too much of its own money and energy. How about more of you voters step in and add your own efforts to theirs? - Wes.
