Show Low Whipple Ranch fifth grader McKenzie Gray reads a book to first grader Macie Avila Sept. 14 during a once-a-week program at the school. Students in Erik Andersen's fifth grade class read to students in Keilah Butler's first grade class, teaching them how to identify authors and illustrators, figure out what kind of story it is and what it is about. The first graders then read back to the fifth graders. Andersen said this is the first year Whipple Ranch has instituted such a program.
