Endorsement WMI recommends Ann Kirkpatrick for Congressional District 1

Posted: Friday, October 19, 2012 5:00 am

Four years ago we wrote in an editorial that White Mountain residents had the opportunity to elect “one of their own” (Ann Kirkpatrick) to represent them in Washington.

She is an Obama liberal and we will have none of that, thankyou.

Ok we voted her out for a reason... She did not get the job done. She walked out on "her own people". It does not make sense to go back something that doesn't work.

    No thanks,

She lost me on walking out in Holbrook, and her vote for Obamacare, a law she didn't read and couldn't possibly have understood.

Sometimes, whether you like it or not, you must face your cheerleaders as well as your detractors with the same courage. Cowardly walking away from a group of your constituents because it isn't all cheers coming from them is not how I expect an elected Representative of "all" the people in her district to behave.

I have not yet made up my mind about who to vote for.

However, one thing this endorsement should show the readers, is that despite Liberals constantly complaining that the White Mountain Independent is heavily biased toward the Conservative Repulican side of the Partisan Divide . . . . please notice that the newspaper consistantly endorses candidates on boty sides of that divide.

Her record for doing for the people in her district surpasses anything Renzi, Gosar, or Patton have done. Because she voted for Obamacares, seniors are now saving $600.00 yearly or more when they hit the donut hole. Students in college and youth whose work has no health insurance, now can stay in their parents insurance until age 26; are savings of thousands of dollars each year. men and women now have access to preventative tests for cancer and other illness, with no deductibles or co-insurance. Personally, because of Obamacare, we (wife) has already recieved a rebate of the insurance premiums from the private insurance company and I will take advantage of a preventative test without co-pay,deductible,co-insurance.

If the worst thing Ann kirkpatrick has done is walk out an unruly meeting because the lady was scared...that in itself is chicken feed compared to her accomplishments in behalf of the people in her district, helping veterans, seniors, Native Americans, the Paper Mill and everyone in general.

Al, thank you for pointing out factual records for this candidate.

Matter of fact, i just sent my ballot in, voting for her.

Now what is this fuss you always raise about WMI only supporting conservatives, and me being their apologist?

I reread you recommendation several times trying to find out if this was real or a spoof. Her rubber stamping every liberal bill put in front of her by Pelosi is part of the problem in Washington. Lock-step is wrong, I don't care which party is runnign things. You are sent there to represent the people of your district and she did not. She acted like a bobble-head doll. Her walking out of a town meeting she called when a question got too tough is inexcusable. I am not a fan of Paton, but her attack dog ads have been rife with lies and she has been called out on it by several very liberal publications.

I haven't forgotten Ann what she did to us and this country. Anything good that you may of ever done, was erased by your support of Obamacare. I have been waiting for one of your appearances, but you don't seem to want and come see us, remember you are supposedly one of us. Your support for a socialist state that Obama is heading us into is well documented and we have not forgotten this. You will know me I will be the one with the "Don't tread on me" shirt on. I just can't believe that you would have the nerve to run again. Remember Ann, it's the Constitution.

Wes, You must be getting kickbacks for all the promotion you give to the WMI. Who cares what candidate the newspaper endorses. The fact is that liberal policies are a complete failure. Look at us now. Tax and spend does not work. Kirkpatrick failed us once and the WMI wants another try with failure again??

    Bottom line is this:

if you want more of what you are getting now, vote liberal, i.e. Kirkpatrick.

NO to Kirkpatrick!!!!!! We don't want another Pelosi/Obama rubber stamp in DC. The gal that mentioned her walking out on her constuents is "chicken feed" is a little screwy, if you ask me. I have never heard of that anywhere in the country. That's like desertion in the military. I WAS IN HOLBROOK AT THE SAFEWAY STORE THAT DAY. I certainly didn't see anything "unruly" or anything to be "scared of". The people didn't start shouting until she started out the door. ArizAI is really full of it-too many holes in her post for anyone to believe her. Why the WMI failed to tell the whole story on Kirkpatrick is beyond me. Guess I'll not put too much faith in the WMI's stories and editorials anymore.

I reread your endorsement several times to be absolutely sure you were not pulling our leg. Apparently, the staff has lost it's collective mind. Kirkpatrick may be a home-girl, but she obviously doesn't care about the people she was supposed to represent. That alone would disqualify her from further consideration as an elected representative from this district. To top it off, her campaign has spewed enough blatent lies about Paton that two liberal publications in Tucson have endorsed Paton which for one is a first. Please reconsider your position and use your intellect rather than your heart.

What changed my mind about Ann Kirkpatrick was learning about the bills she pushed through for Veterans that I read about in AZ Home & Garden. It bothers me that Paton moved to the District to run for Congress, even though he seems to be a friendly guy. I think Kirkpatrick is a very courageous person in her own right and reflects the real heart and soul of the White Mtns. Her family goes way, way, back here. The White Mountain Independent did the right thing. They realized they could not turn their back on Kirkpatrick or else turn their back on the White Mountain people, the Navajo Nation, the Veterans, The White Mountain Apache Tribe, the County Sheriffs, and School Superintendents who want to work with Kirkpatrick again, because they know she'll get things done.

Russ, no, I get no kickbacks of any kind from WMI. I happen to think they and their staff do great things for our set of communities. You may not be aware of it, but Greg Tock, publisher sits on various community volunteer organizations such as the Ad and Promo Committee of PTLS to try to help bring new jobs into the area.

I always laugh when I see that both the liberals and the conservatives blast the WMI for being biased toward the other side.

There are two reasons I value who and what WMI endorses:

    1. Their staff MUST keep on on all events because they cover them. Therefore they know a ton more than I do about most events.

    2. Because of a few personal contacts and conversations I have had with several of their staff, I have personal confidence that they want to do what is right, constitution, and ethical.

    3. There endorsements also help steer undecided voters - hopefully in the right direction.

Like I said before, what changed my mind about Ann Kirkpatrick was her bills to help Veterans. Peace everyone.

As a veteran, I will vote for the veteran. Jonathan Payton is a combat veteran who served in Iraq. It is time to put more veterans into office.

When a nation is 16.5 trillion in Debt, and people send representatives to bring home the bacon, they are absolutely sticking their heads in the sand. There is no bacon to bring home, and a representatives most important responsibility is the sanctity of our country and our constitution, well before their constituents. She may go to washington and get this or that for her people back home, but that this or that is just another step towards insolvency and bankruptcy and a one world government and currency. Che is dead on right when he suggests this. The most important thing we can do now--if it isn't to late is elect people who understand and will take action--painful as it may be---to bring us back from the brink of bankruptcy and looking a whole lot like europe.

Do you feel they are biased toward the Liberals?

    Please let us all know.

@ AZ AL - The meeting at Holbrook was not an "unruly" meeting as you stated. And the "lady" certainly was not scared of a bunch of 50-65 year olds that mostly attended that meeting.

I was there. Everyone has a right to listen to the questions AND HER ANSWERS if she is running for this area. She wanted votes, we wanted to know her agenda and how it affects her constituents.

As far as I'm concerned, she deserved to sit out the last term, and hopefully this term also.

    Concerned taxpayer,

You may have been there but you are not Anne kirkpatrick and you do not know what her fears and frustrations may have been at the time, unless you claim to have mind reading powers. Anne scheduled a meeting with her constituents and she showed up for that meeting. The videos shown in all the news outlets show an unruly meeting with people yelling and advancing towards the speaker. And they also show Anne kirkpatrick leaving in either a fearful or frustrated manner. The bottom line is that at any civic public meeting, there must be order and some kind of procedure for the public to voice their concerns and to allow the candidate to address those concerns. Otherwise, in chaos nothing gets accomplished.
All that being said, Anne kirkpatrick in her 2 year term did more for the people of CD 1 than Renzi or Gosar...she is a true moderate Democrat who has always put her country, her District ahead of party.
