Sean Dieterich moved into a three-way tie for the lead in the sixth week of football forecasting. He is deadlocked with Joe “Adman” Garguilo and Keith Morris atop a tight six-way race.

A couple of surprises last week saddled most of our forecasters with humble records.

But Indepenent photographer Mike James outdid all the regulars, went 12-3 and moved two games closer to first and into fourth place, just one game behind the lead trio.

Jen Denton, one of our top forecasting WMI readers, also went 12-3 and got the tiebreaker spot on to win a gift ceritificate at RT’s Black Bull in Show Low.

This week’s sponsor of a $25 gift certificate is Licano’s Restaurant in Show Low.

With cold weather just around the corner, it is a good time to enjoy some comfort food.

Licano’s is a great place for something warm and wholesome to get you all warm on the inside.

Start off with a selection from their extensive lineup of appetizers, such as a quesadila, nachos supreme (with beans and sour cream), or hot wings.

Follow up with one of Licano’s Mexican specialties such as enchiladas, burros, fajitas, tostadas, tacos or chimichangas, topped with your favorites — beef, chicken, shrimp, red and/or green chile, lettuce, tomato, onion, guacamole, sour cream . . .

Top it off with a delicious dessert — deep-fried ice cream, deep-fried burrito with fruit filling, churros, cheese cake with strawberries, sopapillas with honey, and flan — it sure goes great with Licano’s coffee, tea, herb tea, Mexican sodas, Pepsi sodas, lemonade or milk.

Or go to Licano’s anytime just for dessert with coffee or hot tea.

Licano’s also is great at lunchtime with specials every day.

A hearty thanks goes out to Sean Dieterich who filled in while I was gone to Mississippi for my mother’s funeral.

Dieterich selected a great lineup of games, even though there’s a bit of a lull with some of our local powers and some NFL teams have bye weeks.

A couple of battles on SEC Eastern Division turf makes this what should be a good week.

Our backmarkers, trailed by new cellar-dweller Lia Angelus, who was 7-8 last week, are going with home wins at South Carolina and Florida in hopes of making the FFFFF standings even tighter.

I have to go with Florida in a mild upset if I am to catch up. But being four games out of first, there's no use in getting crazy just yet. My head has been spinning the last two weeks but I'm back in the saddle again.

Mogollon is on upset alert after giving up 64 points in a loss to Scottsdale Prep last week. Most of us like the Mustangs to bounce back but there's a few taking undefeated Mesa Prep.

But there’s a better split of opinions on the Big 12 clash between West Virginia and Texas. Stanford and Clemson are unanimous picks, as are Show Low, Round Valley and Estrella Foothills.

It looks like the home teams in our NFL games are all favorites, so thats the consensus of our panel.
