SPRINGERVILLE — The Forest Service and other partner agencies continue to investigate the shootings of two horses found earlier this month on the Black Mesa Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.

In keeping with Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations policies, comments regarding the details of the investigation cannot be made at this time. However, this incident remains an important investigation to the agency as well as our partners.

The Forest Service had a licensed veterinarian perform a necropsy, and out of respect, the animals were buried thereafter.

The investigation is under the U.S. Forest Service’s jurisdiction and anyone having information regarding this incident may contact the Black Mesa Ranger District or Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Supervisor’s Office. Additionally, people may call the tip line Navajo County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) has set up, 1-800-78-CRIME. The NCSO is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons relating to this incident. The reward funding came from an anonymous donor.
