SNOWFLAKE — On April 26, Highland Primary School third grade teacher Breyan Flake received an award and check for Most Valuable Teacher (MVT) from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Highland Primary in the Snowflake-Taylor Unified School District serves grades K-3.
Several Arizona teachers were recognized by the Diamondbacks organization and Papa John’s Pizza. The presentation took place on the field before a Diamondbacks baseball game.
“This is my first year at Highland Primary,” says Flake. “I fell in love with teaching the moment I started as the students are amazing and truly brighten each day!”
Flake was nominated for the Arizona Diamondbacks/Papa John’s Pizza Most Valuable Teacher’s (MVT) Award by parent Norene Eilertsen.
“I love watching my students grow and blossom both academically and personally throughout the year,” says Flake. “It is so rewarding to see them achieve something, especially when they have struggled.”
“There are so many amazing teachers here at Highland Primary and in the district,” adds Flake. “I have so much to learn from them and I feel guilty getting this award, as I feel others have much more experience and deserved this opportunity more than me.”
She also said that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the help of the amazing teachers and administration that have supported her.
“I am especially grateful to my amazing mentor this year, Lynnda Cahoon, who answered a million questions and also taught me so much about being a compassionate teacher,” adds Flake.
