SHOW LOW — Almost 90 kids registered to participate in the 10th annual Hatch Toyota Tundra Kids’ Fishing Derby held Saturday, June 15, at Fool Hollow Lake in Show Low.

The derby was an all-ages, family-friendly extravaganza that caters to young anglers. The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) Pinetop Region, City of Show Low and Hatch Toyota organized the event.

Arizona Game and Fish provided a hefty supply of fishing poles and tackle for kids to use at the event. In addition, they provided bait that didn’t have to be returned after use.

J&T’s Wild-Life Outdoors also provided free, annual fishing licenses to the first 50 kids that registered for the event. Johnny Johnson, as in years past, was the official weigh-in master, which added to the level of excitement for everyone.

A variety of raffle prizes were awarded at the ramada after the final fish weigh-ins. Prizes were also awarded the kids who reeled in the biggest fish in each age division.

To promote fishing in the community, no fishing license was required during the derby event hours, providing a simple check-in with AZGFD prior to casting a line.
