LAKESIDE — Navopache Electric Cooperative, (NEC), of Lakeside sponsored an all-expenses paid trip for five local high school students who are the 2018 winners of the Washington D.C. Youth Tour (WDCYT).

The five students left the NEC Lakeside office on Friday, June 8, accompanied by several NEC employee chaperones. The group traveled together to Phoenix for the first leg of their trip and flew out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Saturday, June 9.

After arriving in D.C., the group will embark on several activities that include meeting United States senators, government representatives and touring national museums and landmarks including a visit to the Jefferson Memorial and witnessing the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.

“You all worked hard to earn this trip,” said NEC CEO Chuck Moore to the students before they left on Friday. “You are going to get to see things that many people don’t get the opportunity to see in their lifetime. You’ll have busy, non-stop schedules so ask a lot of questions, take a lot of pictures and really enjoy this experience,” he added.
