Walking Down Ranch celebrates Thanksgiving for Vets

Expressing gratitude on Thanksgiving Day at Walking Down Ranch in Lakeside, 12 volunteers labored in love preparing and serving a home-cooked Thanksgiving Dinner for local veterans and guests. Executive Director Maggie Heath “guestimates” that about 36 veterans and guests were present to break bread together. Donations of food and time made the day a special one for veterans and those who got to serve them. Walking Down Ranch, Veterans Village is a 501©3 whose mission is to assist veterans in all aspects of their transition from military service back into civilian life. There are 18 cabins in the midst of renovation to make them suitable as transitional housing. Additionally, the Veterans Village Thrift Store at the front of the property provides on-going revenue for the revitalization and maintenance of the cabins, as well as funding for other veteran-focused projects.
