PINETOP-LAKESIDE — On Saturday, Pinetop-Lakeside police officers responded to a call of a shooting at residence in the 1000 block of Ravens Way. Upon arrival, they found a 36-year-old Fort Apache man had been shot in the face. The victim was flown to a Phoenix hospital with injuries to the face and jaw.
Officers arrested Matthew Saunders, 37, of Whiteriver later that day in connection with the shooting. He was allegedly found, several hours later, stumbling around a condominium complex. He was admitted to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia. As of Monday morning, he was still in the hospital.
Charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony endangerment, disorderly conduct with a weapon, carrying a weapon in commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in city limits are pending against Saunders.
Police are unsure of what led up to the shooting. The two men had been at the same residence with a group of other people, and alcohol may be involved.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call (928) 368-8800.
