CONCHO — Voters have replaced two members of the Concho Fire Board in a Nov. 3 recall election.
In the contest between board president Tracy Candelaria and candidate John Bedway, Candelaria got 42 votes to her opponent’s 94 votes.
Incumbent Pat Murphy got 38 votes to Wanda Williams’ 59 votes. Candidate David “Skip” Thomas also ran against Murphy and William and garnered 40 votes.
Single write-in votes were cast in each race.
Concho resident and former fire chief Terry Shobe said the recall was an example of making the system work when people are unsatisfied with the actions of those in positions of authority.
“They are there to serve. And if not ,they should reconsider. They should always keep the best interest of the public in mind,” he said. “The law allows a recall election four times a year,” he added. “If people are unhappy with a board they can go that route.”
Shobe gave the credit for getting the recall election rolling to the Concho Community Committee.
“They got this,” he said.
