In the May 11 edition of the paper (page A7) shows yet another accident along White Mountain Road by Walmart/Firehouse restaurant. The speed limit is 45 mph and too dangerous to be making turns in and out of the business parking lots. From Fawnbrood South to Wagon Wheel Lane would be much safer at a reduced 35 mph limit. I have previously discussed this with a Show Low police officer, but have seen no response. I realize that this involves two police agencies, Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside, maybe that's the problem. Meanwhile, the dangers still exist for motorists along this stretch of highway. So, be safe and extra cautious while driving in this area.

I can't say about your area, but you might want to speak to the city/town councils and Navajo County Board of Supervisors for the area of roadway not in the community's control. Law enforcement usually doesn't decide what the speed limit is, they just enforce it.

45 mph is just fine.

The speed limit is perfect. The drivers are the issue. I mean it aint like it use to be. The traffic volume has increased for sure. Just use the convenient stop lights located in the area...wait til Circle K is completed for even more turning in and out.

Fishinguy , Russ and TN are all correct with their comments , the real issue isn't the speed limit but rather the aggressive drivers who habitually exceed the posted speed limit combined with the increasing volume of traffic , which as you must know is about to intensify with the coming assault of summer visitors . Another factor which will add to the mayhem is not only the Circle K coming to the Walgreens - Summit - Walmart intersection , but the new three story Summit Hospital building which necessitated the additional traffic light along this stretch of highway , and which is now operational .

As distasteful as it may be to most , this is the price of so - called progress . My suggestion to you , Mr. Bishop , is to try and schedule your driving to off hours whenever possible and compatible with your schedule . I myself for example , do most of my shopping either before 10:00 am , or after 8:00 pm thereby avoiding the brunt of this mayhem , as I have long arrived at the point in life where I find driving to be an unpleasant and stressful task for the most part . I would also suggest to you that if you still feel that the posted speed limit is too high , or if too many drivers view it as simply being a speed suggestion , that you contact ADOT on the matter as White Mountain Boulevard is a State Highway ( 260 ) . Traffic Safety Engineers are , I believe , the ones who determine speed limits based upon such issues as frequency of roadway curves , curve radii and pavement inclines , ingress and egress issues as regards present and future usages along road frontage properties , proposed and / or potential development along the given stretch of highway corridor, and seasonal traffic and weather patterns .

Just wait until the global population reaches the projected 9.5 to 10 billions mark by mid - century , 2050 .

I wonder if E Show Low Lake Rd. or Scott Ranch Rd. can be extended to Penrod. That would alleviate so much of the traffic that goes all the way through town right now.

MEH You asked "I wonder if E Show Low Lake Rd. or Scott Ranch Rd. can be extended to Penrod." Sure you have the $$$$$$.$$ to build a bridge across Show Low creek below Show low lake. That is what it will take for that to happen.

I only use the lighted intersection in this area because of the number of people using the center, left turn, lane to merge into the traffic lanes. They sit in the lane giving others the impression they are turning into the parking lot then they will pull right over in front of you as you are making a legal left turn. I have narrowly avoided accidents on countless occasions.

fishinguy, of course it will cost money, but we need better road infrastructure up here. It is getting increasingly crowded, and it's about to get worse with the new wing of the hospital now finished. It would be good if the city starts making development plans so these resources can be gathered over a longer period of time.
