LAKESIDE — A 25-year-old Lakeside resident was arrested and booked into the Navajo County Jail for aggravated assault with a weapon/domestic violence and misconduct on May 3.
Jayton Ioviero is currently being held on a $25,000 surety bond. Deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of Andelyn Court in Lakeside for reports of domestic violence involving a weapon.
When deputies arrived they found a 26-year-old woman lying on the ground bleeding. The deputies conducted an initial investigation and determined that Ioviero and the woman had had an argument, and during the argument, he claimed he would use the firearm to harm himself.
The alleged female victim and Ioviero grabbed the gun at the same time when it went off, striking her in the abdomen.
The alleged victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital and later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital to treat her injuries.
The investigation was turned over to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and is still under active investigation.
On average, 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the US. For one year this equates to more than 10 million victims.
