Some 420 athletes participated in one of 10 different events at Show Low’s Deuces Wild Endurance Festival last weekend.

New this year was a 5K race, a 10K and a Half Marathon which drew lots of local distance runners to boost the number of participants.

Scottsdale’s Phillippe Chevrier and Sophie Chevrier swept the top two spots in Saturday’s DeuceMan Long Course Triathlon.

The Olympic Distance Triathlon, also held on Saturday, had the largest number of competitors with 152 entrants. Conrad Sanders of Phoenix won the event by a bit more than nine minutes ahead of David Guenthardt.

Caleb Guest, 36, of Phoenix, won Sunday’s XTERRA Deuces Wild Tri in 2:00.09 by a margin of 2:51 over second-place finisher George Mainas of Santa Fe, N.M.

The Olympic Aquabike was also held on Saturday and 42-year-old Maurice Khoury took first in that event.

Local distance runner Steven Ovah, 34, of Whiteriver, won Saturday’s Half Marathon by more than seven minutes ahead of second-place Celestino Fernandez III of Snowflake.

Elizabeth Schaepe, 25, won the Deuces Wild 10K and the 5K winner was Jake Suss, 26.

Females took the top three spots in the Youth Tri Saturday afternoon, with Jacque Wrona, 8, taking first.
