Mustangs win title

Mogollon’s Malaki Porter runs for yardage in a Sept. 3 victory against Superior in Heber. Porter’s play on offense also helped the the No. 1-ranked Mustangs win their second straight state championship 58-12 Saturday night over No. 2 St. David at Scottsdale Coronado High School. The Mustangs finished the season 12-0 and won their 21st straight game, which is now the longest streak in the state since Chandler, which had won 45 straight, lost on Friday. In Saturday’s victory over the Tigers, the Mustangs scored the first 46 points of the game and held the Tigers scoreless until they scored with less than a minute to play in the first half.
